Littles with a Big Lesson

This powerful message invites us to rediscover the beauty of childlike faith through one of the most tender scenes in Scripture. When parents brought their little children to Jesus in Mark 10 and Luke 18, the disciples tried to turn them away, thinking the Master had more important matters to attend to. But Jesus responded with indignation, declaring that the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. This isn't just a sweet story about Jesus loving children—it's a radical teaching about how we must approach God. We cannot earn our way into the kingdom through status, wealth, achievement, or religious performance. Instead, we must receive it with open hands, like a child receives a gift. The message challenges us to examine the barriers we might be creating that prevent others from encountering Christ, whether in our churches, our attitudes, or our assumptions about who deserves God's attention. From the accessibility ramps we build to the creative ways we share the gospel, we're called to remove obstacles rather than erect them. The contrast with the rich young ruler who appears immediately after this story in all three Gospel accounts is striking—he wanted to know what he could do to earn eternal life, completely missing the point that salvation is received, not achieved.
