What’s the difference between a good trainer and a bad trainer?
In Pokémon Go, everybody wants to be the best trainer.
You walk for miles. You battle in gyms. You use stardust. You grind for XP. You hunt for rare Pokémon.
And everybody knows the phrase: “Gotta Catch ’Em All!”
But let me ask you something:
What if I told you that there is Someone rarer than any shiny Pokémon…
more powerful than any legendary…
and better than any trainer you could ever have?
His name is Jesus.

A Bad Trainer Uses You
A bad trainer only cares about what the Pokémon can do for them.
Can it win battles?
Can it increase rank?
Can it help me flex on everybody else?
If it’s weak… they transfer it.
If it’s not useful… they ignore it.
Some people think God works like that.
They think:
“If I’m good enough, maybe God will want me.”
“If I mess up too much, maybe God will throw me away.”
But that’s not Jesus.

A Good Trainer Builds Relationship
Jesus doesn’t “catch” people to use them.
He calls us because He loves us.
John 15:15 (NLT)
“I no longer call you slaves, because a master doesn’t confide in his slaves. Now you are my friends…”
Notice that:
He says friends.
Not tools.
Not trophies.
Not disposable.
Relationship.
Jesus knows your weaknesses and still chooses you.
Peter failed.
Moses doubled back.
David messed up badly.
Yet Jesus still said:
You’re Mine.
That’s what a good trainer does.

Jesus Wants to Catch Us All
Pokémon says:
“Gotta Catch ’Em All.”
Jesus says:
“I came to save them all.”
Luke 19:10 (NLT)
“For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.”
Jesus is searching.
Not because He needs stronger players.
Because He wants sons and daughters.
He sees the overlooked people.
The anxious people.
The lonely people.
The people hiding in the dark.
And He says:
I want you too.
Not just the “rare” people.
Everyone.

Jesus Is Rarer Than Any Legendary
People spend years trying to catch legendary Pokémon.
Mewtwo. Rayquaza. Lugia.
People stop traffic for shinies.
But Jesus is more valuable than all of them combined.
Philippians 3:8 (NLT)
“Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.”
Not church attendance. Not popularity. Not followers. Knowing Jesus.
That is the real legendary encounter.
And unlike Pokémon—
He’s not hiding.
He’s calling.

The Grind Ends With Jesus
In Pokémon Go, the grind never stops.
More XP. More candy. More raids. Higher CP.
Always chasing. Always upgrading. Always feeling like: “I’m still not enough.”
But when Jesus becomes your Master…
the grind changes.
Because He already finished the work.
Ephesians 2:8–9 (NLT)
“God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.”
You don’t earn salvation. You receive it.
Jesus already maxed your spiritual CP through the cross.
He already won the battle. You’re not fighting for victory. You’re living from victory.
That makes you unstoppable.
Not because of your strength.
Because of His.

Closing Challenge
So let me ask again:
What’s the difference between a good trainer and a bad trainer?
A bad trainer uses.
A good trainer loves.
A bad trainer throws away.
Jesus restores.
A bad trainer only wants power.
Jesus wants relationship.
And when Jesus becomes your Master…
you stop chasing worth
and start walking in identity.
Because the greatest catch
was never the Pokémon.
It was you.
And Jesus said:
“I choose you.”
